Biography

Michael Bostwick first joined Stevenage in May 2008 on a two-year deal from Ebbsfleet, costing the club a five-figure fee. Of the players who would become integral to the golden era to come, Bozzie was one of the first to join.

He was at the heart of the 2009 FA Trophy win, promotion to the Football League, League Two play-off success, and the push for promotion to the Championship.

A defensive midfielder who always featured when fit, he was known not just for his tough tackling and strong presence in the middle of the park but for his legendary thunderbolt strikes from distance, most notably against Newcastle in the FA Cup.

He signed a two-year contract extension in August 2011, but sadly Boro fans wouldn't get to see him in action for the full period. With Westley moving mid-season to Preston, Bostwick followed him out of the door in summer 2012 for a well-deserved move to Peterborough.

That was not, however, the last that Boro fans would see of Bozzie. He rejoined the club from Burton in January 2022, initially on a loan deal as Stevenage sought to avoid relegation to the National League. His presence as a centre back - and as a model pro for others to follow - helped Boro maintain their Football League status.

After agreeing a permanent deal in summer 2022, he would go one better in the 2022-23 season - acting as a crucial cameo player as Boro secured promotion to League One after almost ten years in the fourth tier.

Sadly, he would not get the send off he deserved - starting the promotion-winning game at home to Grimsby, he was forced off after an unfortunate clash of heads with skipper Carl Piergianni. The word legend can be over-used, but few deserve it more than Bozzie.
