Biography

Where to begin with Ronnie Henry? Originally signed by Graham Westley in January 2005, Henry went on to become Stevenage's all-time record appearance maker - 502 before his time at Boro came to an end in 2019.

Initially playing as a centre back, he became a legendary right back, known as Mr Consistency for his dependable seven out of ten performances every single one.

Henry - grandson of Spurs double-winning legend Ron Henry - quickly became club captain in the 2006-07 season, a campaign which saw him become the first person to lift a trophy at the new Wembley Stadium and brought person success too in the form of the Supporters' Association player of the year award.

Ensuing years saw him continue to be one of the first names on the teamsheet, and he became a crucial part of the Day-Henry-Ashton-Roberts-Laird backline that took Boro from the Conference to the League One play-offs, with a cup upset or two along the way for good measure.

Sadly, with Gary Smith installed as manager, Henry was released in summer 2012, opting to join neighbours Luton Town - then in the Conference.

He became club captain there, and again formed an integral part of a Conference-winning defence in 2013-14.

But, by that point, Westley was back as Stevenage manager and Henry turned down a new deal at Luton to return to Broadhall Way.

It looked like being yet another successful period for the right back, but Boro weren't able to make it out of the League Two play-offs in his first season back.

Ensuing seasons - during some of which he was club captain again - brought mid-table mediocrity, though Henry continued to be a shining light at right back.

After steadily racking up his appearances, his moment in the spotlight came in January 2018, when he became Stevenage's record appearance holder, surpassing Mark Smith's 468. He continued on, his 500th appearance coming on March 2019 against Swindon Town.

It would be one of his last matches for the club, as Boro opted to allow him to leave at the end of that season - but only after an emotional testimonial at the club that summer.

Even that wouldn't prove to be the end of his Boro career, however. In July 2019, he became the club's Youth Development Phase Coach - looking after the Stevenage youngsters alongside a continued playing career at Billericay and Royston.
